Coping Mechanisms and Their Role in Mental Well-Being

Whether we’d like to admit it or not, the sheer amount of assignments and deadlines that we are burdened with on a daily basis and the demands of our personal lives - not to mention the need to fulfill all the expectations foisted upon us - make things all the more overwhelming.

Given the amount of pressure we are often under, dropping the put-together façade that so many of us try to maintain might seem daunting - but we need to remember that we are only human. After all, there's only so much one can put up with.

However, there are many ways to manage our feelings - whether it's journaling, meditating, or talking it out, we do regain some semblance of control over our chaotic lives through these strategies, which are also known as coping mechanisms. Every individual has a coping mechanism that suits them best, and one should be encouraged to adopt a coping strategy which serves as a means of emotional catharsis in these trying times.

Here are a few things to think about:

Which coping mechanisms do you use and why?

How do they help?

Do you have any advice for those facing the same struggles as you?

If yes, mail a short write-up with the answers to these questions (you may choose one, two, or even all three if you desire) to mentalhealthandus04@gmail.com.
